What orthodontic treatments can you expect at our practice?

Within orthodontics, there are a wide range of orthodontic treatments very effective in straightening and correcting teeth which are crooked or misaligned. The most well known form of orthodontic treatment used to straighten patients’ teeth is that of traditional metal braces. Traditional metal braces work by using brackets which are fixed to a patient’s teeth and a metal wire which is regularly tightened throughout the treatment, in order to slowly shift the teeth into their desired position. This treatment is usually recommended for children, however adult patients are known to invest in this treatment as well.

Another form of orthodontic treatment which is a popular option for adult patients in particular is Invisalign. An alternative to traditional metal braces,  Invisalign uses clear aligners which are custom made to fit your teeth. Using an iTero Element scanner, a 3D scan is taken of your teeth which is used in order to create the aligners and a custom treatment plan.

The aligners work by gradually moving your teeth into position. Unlike traditional metal braces, a benefit of this treatment is that Invisalign is a removable orthodontic treatment, therefore you are able to eat your favourite foods as normal and it also allows you to maintain a good oral hygiene routine, as you can brush normally and floss after every meal. Another benefit of this treatment is that with the aligners being clear you can undergo this treatment without other people being aware of it.
